Talking with Ruthie Bartlett 2
HONESTY
Hello, again, Middle Schoolers and Parents! Are you a reader of Ruthie’s Adventures in Friendship yet?
X
The Adventures are a series, two books of stories about a girl, her faith in God, the faith of her friends, and their mission to always be ready to HELP.
X
IS IT DIFFICULT to always be ready to HELP OTHERS? Ruthie is here to talk about that.
X
RUTHIE: You’ll see in the stories that, Yeah, we have to push ourselves sometimes
to look, or maybe look back after we’ve walked by, to not only see that a person needs help, but see that we need to ACT. We need to go back and talk to them.
X
Why do you sometimes hesitate, or feel unwilling?
X
RUTHIE: We’re human beings, and we want what we want, and we don’t naturally want to give to others – even give a few minutes to ask someone if they’re all right. It’s important to be HONEST about that. I was – am still – selfish, greedy, lots of evil things that I wish I weren’t. God in my life helps me be different, and the Adventures are stories of Him helping me, and my friends, be that way.
X
And you had troubles even when it came to your getting together with the other girls to make The Rhombus, your group dedicated to HELPING.
X
RUTHIE: Yes, I was nasty when I first met LaTasha, and Bethie was too proud, it seemed to me, to talk to me, and I ridiculed Caitlyn at first and called her names.
X
And now?
X
RUTHIE: The four of us, The Rhombus, we LOVE each other so much, and work with each other so well . . . that it’s something that could only come from God. I hope others my age will let God bring to them such LOVE, and the desire to be ready, always, to HELP.
