The Dancer's Prayer
Written after getting acquainted with J., a dancer, and seeing her passion for Dance - and for God.
Loving Father, look down – mercy in Your eyes, today,
On Your servant, Our dear friend, blessing given me,
And however You favor her, in all, in other way,
Let her feet be moving, be moving, worship off’ring Thee!
This friend You gave, what wants she, but to dance . . . but to dance!
You made her so, O Greatest God, in her You put desire,
Created eager, yearning, seeking, grasping every chance,
And in with all this, too, You did, there, inside, place a fire –
To move, beauty bring, Your grace in moving, thanks express
For this thing I can do and love, she would say, I guess . . . .
So Father, look down on her, with love, love full, today,
On Your servant, friend of so many, blessing given we,
And to all You give her, overflowing, give one other way,
Let her feet be moving, be moving, worship off’ring Thee!
Love we show back to You, just God, just telling You we do,
And we read Your words to know, know what, know where and how far –
But here is someone, something more, quieter, just as true,
Showing Your glory, glorying just in being made as we are –
Made to tread the earth, but, no! Not only on the road advancing,
But turning round and round in joy, in dancing, dancing, dancing!
So Loving God, look down to her, and grant this want today,
To Your servant, Your friend, our friend, sister, child You see,
All the ways You give to her, we all ask for that one other way,
Let her feet be moving, be moving, worship off’ring Thee!
